Barnard
Model P Action
The original action produced since 1982, the basic design is unchanged, but with continuous quality improvement as production technology has developed.
Designed for the Palma or long-range shooter. A single shot cylindrical action, in right or true left handed configuration, also available as twin port, left bolt/left port, or right bolt/right port.
Model P details
Supplied as standard with the Barnard Target trigger, or the action with a hanger for attachment of after-market “Remington suitable” triggers.
The receiver is of 4340 chrome/moly/nickel steel through hardened to 38Rc and finish machined after surface hardening to ensure concentricity.
The bolt carries three forward locking lugs, is equipped with a Sako style extractor and can be supplied to accept any case rim up to 0.534″(standard magnum rim). It too undergoes finish machining after hardening, and is hand lapped to its mating receiver. Though not standard, a bolt face plunger type ejector can be included when an action is being ordered. A common option is the have the receiver cut with Anschutz standard dove-tails.
Model S action
A cylindrical three lug action, basically a Remington 700 short exterior configuration.
The receiver is of 4340 chrome/moly/nickel steel through hardened to 38Rc and finish machined after surface hardening to ensure concentricity. Recoiling options are either a Remington style recoil lug or a 1/4″ x 28mm cap screw from the action into a steel lined hole in a bedding block. The bolt is equipped with a Sako type extractor and boltface plunger type ejector as standard. This action is supplied as standard with no trigger, but with a hanger to enable fitting the trigger of choice (such as any “Remington style” clone). Single-shot configuration only.
model sm action
A cylindrical three lug action, basically a Remington exterior configuration.
The receiver is of 4340 chrome/moly/nickel steel through hardened to 38Rc and finish machined after surface hardening to ensure concentricity. The action is supplied as standard with no trigger, but with a hanger to enable fitting the trigger of choice (such as any “Remington style” clone). This action has been configured to accept a 5 or 10 round HS Precision magazine and floorware. Just as in the Model S (single shot version) the Model SM has a Sako Type extractor and is equipped with a boltface plunger style ejector.
Model GP Action
This, the latest member of the Barnard family of actions, is designed for the largest of cartridges that are generally found in use in target rifles.
The Model GP is of conventional, cylindrical forward-locking turn bolt design, is available in either left or right handed configuration and at present time is only single shot format. Supplied with the action is a 6061 aluminium bedding block, an anodised 6061 aluminium piccatinny style scope rail (30 minutes of angle), and Barnard trigger. The bedding block can be used with (recommended), or without a 12mm recoil stud which is also included. This bedding block is machined to give 2 parallel points of contact on the receiver which will ensure excellent alignment and rigidity when mounted well in your stock.
The receiver is a massive 4340 chrome/moly/nickel steel solid bottom cylinder, with relatively narrow load/unload port which is through hardened to 38Rc and finish machined after surface hardening to ensure concentricity.
The bolt carries three forward locking lugs, is equipped with a Sako style extractor and bolt face which can be supplied to accept any case rim up to 0.804″. It too undergoes finish machining after hardening, and is hand lapped to suit its mating receiver.
This action accepts a standard Barnard target trigger similar to the trigger supplied with the ‘P’ range of actions. It will accept cartridges up to an overall length of 5½” – thus will handle any of today’s popular large bore cartridges.

V bedding blocks
Full length Action bedding blocks in 6061 T6 Aluminium, ready to fix in your stock.
Our V-block design enables 2 excellent points of contact for the entire length of the action. A steel lined hole is provided to receive a recoil spigot. Simply fix firmly in stock, screw the action in, and go shoot. This also makes cleaning or using a single stock with multiple barreled actions easy.
